Outdoor Wedding Planning Guide & Tips

Rain BLog

Tip #3 Be open to plan B

Trust me, I get it! No one wants last minute changes, especially on their wedding day. Believe me when I say I understand the importance of a set plan; both as a past bride and planner. As hard as it is for those of us with lovely Type A personalities to accept, sometimes things really are out of our control… Gasp! I know!! As hard as it may be, you must accept that there is always a possibility that Plan B (and sometimes C, D… you get the picture) will have to be implemented. Being open to this from the beginning, will allow you to relax and go with the flow a little more should disaster strike. Just remember, if you have hired a professional, quality planner, you will not have to worry about any of this! They will have it all under control!!!

Probably the biggest game changer is weather!!! No matter how many people say, “rain is good luck on your wedding day”, trust me, no one wants to hear that!! What you want, correction… what you need, is to hear that your coordinator has an amazing plan B hammered out and is ready to execute it perfectly… regardless of what the weather was “supposed” to be.

Especially living in Houston, we all know how unpredictable the weather can be! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been out and about and had the weather go from 75 and sunny, to 30 degrees cooler and a torrential down pour… literally in a matter of minutes. With a weather contingency plan, your planner will be able to smoothly transition your wedding so that you can enjoy your day without missing a beat!

No matter what the need for change may be, make sure you have hired a planner who is ready to take on anything! When meeting with potential planners, be sure to ask them about a time they had to go to plan B. This will help you get a sense of how they handle unexpected situations and work under pressure. Be open to the potential of a plan B and have those important chats with your planner ahead of time so they are able to truly orchestrate your wedding vision, despite any deviations to the original plan! A legit planner knows that, regardless of what “should” happen on the big day, they must be ready for anything and have a plan in their back pocket, just in case (without stressing out the bride of course)!!
